Head in the Clouds: Abstract Color Cloud Art in Under an Hour
Recall the erstwhile rubbing booze and permanent marker trick from when you lot were a kid? The i where you could create (semi) psychedelic patterns that kind of looked like rainbow clouds that Lisa Frank would take totally been into?
Well, today, I accept to admit, there's a part of me that still thinks that Lisa Frank knows where's it at. Like, 100%. Considering I made this DIY color cloud art (for lack of a better term?) and put together a quick tutorial, in case y'all want to brand your own.
This art DIY is insanely easy, foolproof fifty-fifty. And (bonus) you can scale the projection to any size you'd like. And so, if yous're looking for a upkeep-friendly option for a large calibration slice of artwork, this could be it.
Materials
– picture frame with drinking glass (whatsoever size)
– permanent markers (mine are from Amazon)
– rubbing alcohol
– pigment brush
– spray sealant (optional)
Instructions
1. Start by dissembling the picture frame and advisedly removing the glass. Set the frame aside for now.
2. Next, select the color scheme you want to piece of work with and start coloring big sections with permanent markers. At that place'southward no rhyme or reason to this one, and then feel free to make the color blocked areas as large or as small as you want. And any shape also.
iii. Once the entire slice of glass has been covered, dip your castor into the rubbing alcohol and gently utilise it to start pushing the color around the glass. You can also drip alcohol correct onto the drinking glass for a more than bubbled / deject-similar design. I did a combo of both.
four. Go on this process until the entire piece of glass is complete. Y'all tin continue going back over any problem areas, so this actually is foolproof. Adjacent, add together a calorie-free coat of spray sealant to the drinking glass, while it's laying down flat, and permit the sealant to dry out completely before standing onto the side by side stride. This part is optional considering you can actually simply plow the painted side inward when you add together the glass back to the frame to protect the paint from being removed. But it doesn't hurt to add the sealant, and so why non.
5. Popular the drinking glass into the frame, add a solid sheet of paper behind it, and secure the frame backing. I used white paper every bit my background, merely you tin can apply any color…It actually simply depends on how yous desire your finished piece to look. And so it's ready to hang.
Quick Note: The rubbing alcohol will change color the more than you dip your brush in (like above). And then information technology'due south probably easiest to pour a small amount into a basin and then replenish every bit needed when the alcohol begins to fill with color.
